Dr. Brent Reynolds PHD DCM

Founder and Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida

Prana Therapeutics Founder, Brent A. Reynolds PhD DCM, received his Ph.D. in 1994 from the University of Calgary during which time he and Sam Weiss discovered the existence of a stem cell in the adult central nervous system, challenging a century old dogma that the adult brain was unable to produce new neurons. He co-founded NeuroSpheres Ltd. where he was Vice-President of Research and in 1999 published the first report on the trans-differentiation of cells derived from one germ layer into functional cells of another germ layer.
Professor Reynolds holds 16 US patents related to neural stem cells and his lab is currently focused on the development of stem cell specific assays, in situ manipulation of neural stem cells and understanding the role that solid tissue cancer stem cells play in tumor initiation and metastasis.

Dr. Heshan “Grasshopper” Illangkoon PhD

Co-Founder at Prana Therapeutics

Prana Therapeutics co-Founder Heshan “Grasshopper” Illangkoon PhD earned his degree from the University of Florida in 2010 working on astrobiology and synthetic biology projects. Notable projects on origins of life include the origins of ribose and carbohydrates for RNA and designing new letters for DNA. In 2003 he helped design the first diagnostic test for the SARS virus. He is an experienced biotech entrepreneur with his most recent work in regenerative medicine in the emerging field of stem cell exosomes. He comes from a line of healers where his paternal grandfather practiced ayurveda in Sri Lanka.

Our Journey

Prana Therapeutics was founded out of a passion for natural remedies and a desire to offer an alternative to traditional anti-inflammatory treatments. Our founders, with backgrounds in health and wellness, sought to create a product that would harness the therapeutic benefits of natural ingredients like curcumin, EGCG, and sulforaphane.

Using disease-specific screens, we have identified unique combinations of botanical extracts that target the multiple contributing mechanisms of disease initiation and progression. Our lead compounds, including Epidiferphane, have demonstrated strong preclinical efficacy at preventing and treating several disease indications.
